That Peace

Peace I leave with you, My Peace I give to you; Not as the world gives you do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled nor let it be afraid. ~Jesus When I read these words I can take a deep breath. I relax. I feel...... at peace.

This morning as I wrapped up my meeting time with Jesus I sat back in my chair, took a deep breath, and had one of those tangible encounters with the peace of God. It felt as if the whole room became calm and went into relaxation mode. It was soft, it was loving, it was tender, and it was humbling.

Peace is promised to us, but just as most of the promises of the Bible we have to make a choice to receive the gift. A Christian has the potential to walk in peace every moment of every day.

Life's circumstances, hardships, pressures, tests, trials, heartaches, and such, often cause a disruption to our peace because we take our focus off of the Peace Giver and onto our situations. If focused on circumstance peace will often be forfeited. Hence why Jesus said, do not let your heart be troubled nor let it be afraid.

Jesus walked in peace because He knew who His Daddy was.  He knew that in the hands of His Father there was no reason for worry, stress, or fear.

We must take our eyes off of the circumstances and onto the  God who holds us, off of our pains and disease and onto the Healer, when we change our perception, our view, our focus, and look to the Creator there we find peace.

I have a student in one of my classes that I have been witnessing to for over a year. I have seen her steadily grow closer and closer to wanting the things of God. Today as she came in my office she said I don't get why you're always so calm and happy. I found this statement to be a little weird, not really understanding what she meant. As she sat in the chair next to my desk she picked up my Bible and said "and you're always reading this". I laughed and said well this is why I'm always so calm and happy. Joking with her I said "this is why I am your favorite teacher and you want to be just like me, because I am happy and I am always at peace, you're not yet, but you want to be." Her response, "You're right" and she walked out of my office.

Everyone wants inner peace. Every person walking on the earth wants to feel at peace. They want to know that things are going to be okay, that they have hope, that there is a future for them, that someone cares about them... and yet as Christians we have all of this. Every moment of the day I know that I am loved, I know that I have a future full of hope and blessings, I know where I will be when I die and I know that I will live in everlasting joy, my life is full of joy, hope, and love. I live in peace.

If circumstances in your life have gotten to you lately, take a moment to take your mind off of the issues of life, and take a deep breath. Read the words of Jesus again: Peace I leave with you, My Peace I give to you; Not as the world gives you do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled nor let it be afraid.

Remember Him who created you (Jeremiah 1:5), Him who died for you (John 3:16), Him who loves you (Ps. 36:7), Him who rejoices over you with singing (Zephaniah 3:17), Him who gives you peace (John 14:27).

Be Blessed, J. Tate
