What's Put In Will Come Out

Can I play science teacher real quick?Get a glass (okay picture one in your mind), pour water into it, now take that glass and dump it out... Now here's the tricky part... What came out? Coffee (I WISH), Sweet Tea, Soda, or was it still just water?

As far as I know Jesus is the only one who ever turned water into wine. The truth is there is a principle we see all throughout the Bible, what you let into your life is what will come out of it.

Luke 6:45 The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks. Psalm 119:11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

If you pour water into a glass, water will come out of it. If you want coffee to come out, you better put coffee in the glass.

What I pour into my life or let into it is what will come out of it and if I want good and godly things to come out you better put good and Godly things in. In Luke 6 Jesus says very clearly if evil is in your heart, evil will flow out. In Psalm 119 David is sharing a principle that what we put into our heart directly effects our actions.

Think twice about who you spend the majority of your time with, think again about what movies you listen to and watch, ask the Holy Spirit about what thoughts you entertain or attitudes you allow to creep into your heart. What you allow in is what will come out.

I'll end with an old story, but one that I still think about often. I had a school student in the car with me whose family I am close to. I took her to Sonic to get a drink and then was taking her to meet up with her parents. As she was getting out of my car she spilled ALL (EVERY DROP) of her ROUTE 44 drink all in my BEIGE NEW CAR SEATS and into the floor board where my MAC and some other things were! She starts panicking like crazy. I calmly grab a t-shirt I had in the back and just told her to soak it up. She's very frazzled and I just touch her arm and tell her to calm down, I'm not mad, it's just a car, it's just stuff, it's not a big deal, no one is mad. The young girl begins to get tears in her eyes and says WHY AREN'T YOU MAD AT ME?!? GET MAD AT ME! YOU SHOULD BE MAD, MY MOM WOULD BE SCREAMING AND CUSSING! JUST GET MAD AT ME!!!..... I thought I was going to cry.

Now that is just a simple little story about a spilled coke, there are much more intense times of pressure and trial, but the truth is I claim scripture over my life everyday that I have the fruits of the Holy Spirit ruling my life, and that I am patient, I am calm, I remain stable, that I show love, that I do not get angry... What I've put in will come out. Do I always do this perfectly... ABSOLUTELY NOT... but I know that as I continue to pour the Word into my life that the Word and Christ like characteristics will come out.

Watch what you pour in!

Be Blessed,

J. Tate
