His Presents or His Presence?

"Now Abram was very rich, in livestock, silver and gold" (Genesis 13:2) Abraham lived in the blessing of God and yet God still makes this amazing statement to Abraham.

"Fear not Abram, I am thy shield, and they exceeding great reward" (Gen. 15:1)

This statement has for years greatly impacted my walk with the Lord. I found after I was saved that God was a pursuer, He pursued after me, and now as a Christian I could pursue after Him. "Seek me and you will find me", "He's a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him", "Draw near to me and I'll draw near to you". That list goes on and on, but you get the point.

You see there's a few great men in the Bible and all seem to have grasped something very important. It's not about what God can and will do for me, it's about my relationship with Him. Look at what David said, "One thing have I asked of the Lord, and that will I seek after, that I may dwell in the court of the Lord forevermore to behold His beauty" (Psalm 27:4) How about Paul? "I count all things to be loss in view of the SURPASSING VALUE of KNOWING Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ" (Philippians 3:8) Do we want to get into my favorite John, who laid upon the bosom of Jesus? These men sought close, intimate, relationship with God and there are of course others like Joshua, Moses, Elijah etc.

The truth is we can pursue God's presents or we can pursue His presence. Now here is where I may throw some of you off. You  need both. That's right I'm not here to tell you that you don't need what God's hand brings. You do. You need the peace of God, you need the protection of God, you need the riches of God, you need His love, you need His forgiveness, you need His joy. BUT PRAISE GOD WE CAN HAVE IT ALL, WHEN WE COME TO HIM!

The problem is that we can easily get into a habit of pursuing after what He has to offer, rather than Him. Oh and you might receive some of the blessing, but it will never be in the capacity that you would get it when you pursue after Him and Him alone.

Are you feeling tired? Are you feeling lonely? Are you lacking peace? Are you needing provision? protection? etc. You name it and I guarantee you that it is all found in Him. He is Jehovah Jireh our provider, He is Jehovah Rapha our Healer. Seek God's presence and not His presents.

Jeremiah 29:13 And ye shall seek Me, and find Me, when ye shall search for Me with all your heart.

Be Blessed, J. Tate
