Potential- capable of being or becoming As I've moved to a new city, started a new job, visited new places, met new people, and have new vision there is this theme across the board of "potential". I see potential, my Pastor sees potential, people I've met with in the community or in our church, we all see... potential.
I like this next definition.
Potential- a latent excellence that may or may not be developed
Oh I could go on and on about the potential that is inside every believer simply because you have the HOLY SPIRIT, but potential is just what this last definition says it's an excellence that "may or may not" be developed.
Let me explain, I have the potential "the capability" to run a marathon, but if I never go outside and start with one mile then I'll never run a marathon. I have potential "the ability" to have 6 pack abs, but if I won't give up eating oreos that's never going to happen. How about this? We have the potential to read through the entire Bible multiple times in our lifetime, but if you won't discipline yourself enough to read through it once.... you get the point?
We have tons of unused potential inside of us.
As I was reading a few days ago in Mark 9:23, the concept of potential HIT ME like never before. "Jesus said, If you can believe, all things are possible to him that believes"
I've been a creative dreamer my whole life who has big and seemingly unrealistic goals. We live in a society where people are often saying "now be realistic", "set attainable goals", and I'll be the first to admit I've said those things more than my fair share of times. However, when I read Mark 9:23, I had to repent for ever trying to limit someones potential. If you can believe it, if you can have faith enough, then it is possible to you. . Don't let the world's reality, suffocate God's reality...
God's reality the potential of faith, not the potential of people.
I'm reminded once again of Ephesians 3:20 "2Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us," There's one important thing there, we achieve all things because of the "power that worketh in us". It is because of the Holy Spirit and the blood of Jesus Christ that we overcome or we succeed. It is important that as we begin to put our faith out there that we're asking and believing things that line up with the will of God. The Holy Spirit will give you vision, He'll give you goals, now will you release your faith to achieve them.
I truly believe that the potential for every born again believer is way beyond what we've ever dreamed or thought of. Will we do our part to develop the potential inside of us. Will you put your faith out there even if it looks foolish? Will you go run that first mile in the direction of your goal?
My regret is that it took major life change for me to see bigger potential. In Liberty I could dream of youth and teenagers being saved... and they were, I could dream of counseling and reaching out to young women... and I did, but what other dreams did the Holy Spirit place on the inside of me for Liberty that I never got on board with because I didn't understand the potential, because I wouldn't put my faith out there, because I wouldn't run the first mile?
Don't wait for major life changes to see the potential of where you are.
Believe now. Listen to the Holy Spirit for His vision now. Change the lives of those around you NOW. We are the body of Christ, and we have great potential.
Be Blessed, J. Tate
