Last night I got to the house after dark and decided to check the mail while pulling up in my car. I opened the door and stepped out of course without looking down, grabbed the mail, and climbed back in the car. In less than seconds I started feeling multiple stings all on my foot, then soon on my leg, as I tried to shew them I felt it on my hands, then farther up my leg. Oh yes, I had stepped in fire ants and I was COVERED as well as my car. This morning as I started my run I could feel the sharp pain from multiple ant bites on my heels and toes. I was about one minute in when I decided the work out was changing from a distance day to a sprint day, that would cut the time I was in my tennis shoes by more than half. Of course the Holy Spirit began to speak.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, (Hebrews 12:1)
Those ant bites made me want to stop running my race. First off, I love running, but second I know that it is important for me. It is important to be healthy, keep endurance, release positive endorphins, and yet even though I know how important running is to my life, those itty bitty tiny ant bites were able to convince me to stop.
Sin is much like those ant bites. We have a race to run, but our own sin is what can keep you from running with endurance the race of faith in Christ Jesus. Unforgiveness is a painful ant bite, bitterness, resentment, judgemental attitudes, gossip, lack of discipline, lack of self-control, hatred, etc..... Wrong attitudes toward others that we feel are "justified" are a nasty ant bite that will swell and swell until infected.
What "ant bites" are you allowing to be a hindrance in your race? What is holding you back from running full force in the journey of faith that we live?
Be Blessed, J. Tate
