Bombs, Fires, and Earthquakes

I like to wait a few days typically before I begin to give my thoughts on issues that I feel can cause so much emotional reaction. America has had a rough week. For years as a nation turning on the news has not been the most uplifting and encouraging thing to do, but this week has been one of the toughest as it has encompassed two national tragedies along with some world wide issues. As I sat down to write I was reminded of a blog that I wrote after elections titled "Election Thoughts". What is our reaction in times of discouragement, disappointment, confusion, and even tragedy?

I've noticed and seen various reactions that I'll be honest cause me to weep for the lack of understanding of who God is. Let me show you an example.

This is a picture of a Westboro Baptist Church picket. To be honest this is one of the nicer of the signs they dawn with phrases such as, "God hates America", "It's too late to pray", "Thank God for the bombs"... etc.

I think many of you will read that paragraph and perhaps feel the same stirring in the pit of your stomach that I feel. Maybe you will read it and begin to feel an indignation that can only seem as righteous as Jesus turning over tables in the temple.

I wrote a blog a few weeks ago quoting the scripture that "they were zealous without knowledge" and also "My people perish for lack of knowledge". It is time that the Bride of Christ will be the voice for her Husband.

Though the Westboro Baptist Church lacks knowledge, they understand one thing, how to be a voice. They've gained attention on major issues throughout the years and I'm sad to say that though many are not as extreme as this group, they may have similar opinions of my God.

There is no doubt in my mind who was behind the bombing, the fire, and other such tragedies. I know that the Bible says that thief came to STEAL, KILL, AND DESTROY and that Jesus came to GIVE LIFE, and life to the full. I know that God is the opposite of the thief and therefore comes to GIVE, BRING LIFE, AND RESTORE. The Bible warns us of earthquakes, wars, rumors of wars, persecution, tribulation, and continually says DO NOT BE AFRAID, TAKE HEART, THE LORD YOUR GOD IS WITH YOU!!

I was brought to tears yesterday as I reread Hosea. I saw this picture of a God who so deeply loves His bride though she is an adulteress. And I am reminded that this is God. The God who continually says though you fail, though you cheat, though you sin, I will come after you. I love this verse. Hosea 3:1 "Then the Lord said to me, “Go again, love a woman who isloved by a lover and is committing adultery, just like the love of the Lord for the children of Israel, who look to other gods and love the raisin cakes of the pagans.

It is not TOO LATE to pray. You, your family, our nation, have not gone so far or done so much that God will not continue to say, "go again, love them, though they commit adultery". He sent Jesus to die for ALL MEN, knowing the sin we'd commit. 1 John 2:2 "And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world."

In response to the bomber, pray for him. Jesus died for him too. I want justice and real justice is Jesus getting what He paid for, that man's soul in heaven and not in hell. He will be punished for the crimes he has committed and he deserves that. He deserves to burn in hell for what he's done, and so do I, so do you, but the GRACE OF GOD, says that where sin abounds, grace shall abound so much more. Lay down your anger, lay down your bitterness, and pray for that man that he would come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, because Jesus paid for Him too.

Be Blessed, J. Tate
