I appeal to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship. (Romans 12:1 AMP)
Something stirs inside of me as I read these words, "I beg of you in view of all the mercies of God to make a DECISIVE DEDICATION of your bodies..."
This morning I woke up with various situations on my mind and I was talking to God about them. You see some of these situations I just naturally wanted to do what was right and some of these situations I wanted to do what would make me feel better, I wanted to defend myself and prove my case! We need to be better about examining ourselves. It's not prideful to examine yourself and see some areas where you're getting it, you're growing, and you don't have to condemn yourself when you examine yourself and find areas that you need to improve in.
As I talked over these situations with God and I relented and said God, I want to do what's right, I want to give instead of take, I want to be self-less instead of selfish, I want to do what Jesus would do, say what He would say, and feel what He would feel. This is when our Best Friend the Holy Spirit responded,
"Jessika it is your nature to do my will"
Now as prideful as we humans can be sometimes, I'm not dumb enough to honestly think that I always want or choose His will. As soon as that thought crossed my mind, a scripture came to rebuttal it.
Therefore if any man is in Christ, He is a new creature, old things have passed away, behold all things have become NEW. (2 Cor. 5:17) I have been crucified with Christ and I NO LONGER LIVE, but He lives in me... (Gal. 2:20)
Jessika what are you trying to say? I'm saying that the REAL YOU is your Spirit man. The real you is a new creature, the real you is overtaken with the life of Christ. The you that you battle with is the flesh, the crucified you, the old man. It's why Paul said I BEG OF YOU to make a DECISIVE DEDICATION of your bodies in view of the mercy of God. It's why God can say IT IS MY NATURE TO DO HIS WILL. It is the nature of the Spirit that has been renewed and regenerated to do the will of My Lord.
He has given us all of the power in the Holy Spirit, He has defeated sin in the risen Christ, and our job is to make the decisive dedication to listen to the New Us, instead of the old us. To put off the old man and clothe ourselves in Christ.
I want to refocus something for you. No longer view yourself as a sinner trying to achieve righteousness, but rather see that scripture says, You Are Righteous (2 Cor. 5:21), Don't see yourself as a sinner trying to become Christlike, but rather someone who is Christlike battling a thief who wants to steal your true identity. (Gal. 2:20)
Be Blessed, J. Tate
