"He who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him" (John 8:29) Wow. After this verse I have to just pause and take a deep breath. My Beloved, our Jesus, The Sinless Savior, He always did what was pleasing to the Father and our Holy Spirit.
"...and I do nothing on my own initiative" (v. 28)
This concept seems so beyond reach, it seems something only reserved for the Son of God, the Christ. Who else could say "for I always do the things that are pleasing to God"?
"And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, and He will never leave you" (John 14:16)
In John 8:29 Jesus remarked "He has not left Me alone", here in John 14 He is saying now you will receive the Helper and He will never leave you.
THE VERY SAVE HOLY SPIRIT WHO HELPED JESUS HAS BEEN GIVEN TO US TO BE OUR HELPER.
We are not perfect, but we have an aim. Choose to rely so much on our Holy Spirit that we can learn to say "I do NOTHING on my own initiative" and "I always do the things that are pleasing to my Father".
Lord help us, we have so much to learn about the gift of your Holy Spirit. We have so much to learn about the reality of the Godhead dwelling on the inside of us. We have so much to see about the potential that we have because He is our Helper. We have so much growing to do to love like Jesus, look like Jesus, talk like Jesus, walk like Jesus.. to be able to say I do nothing on my own initiative.
"Do NOTHING out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. But rather in humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves" (Phil. 2:3)
There is more of Jessika that needs to decrease and more of Him that needs to increase in my life. There has to be more trusting Him, relying on Him. listening to Him, asking Him, referring to Him, seeking Him, wanting Him, so that I can be more pleasing to Him and less concerned with pleasing myself.
We can do this, we have a Helper.
Be Blessed, J. Tate
