Preventative Measures

It was 12:15 a.m I was hyped up on two cups of coffee from hanging out with friends at IHOP and I was speeding along down the road worshipping at the top of my lungs with one of my spiritual daughters, when the phone rings. "Hey Jess, I just wanted to warn you that when you get to the bridge there's a cop sitting there in the dark on the side of the road waiting to catch someone speeding"

A friend of mine who had left the restaurant a few minutes before me was heading home also and knew I'd soon be passing this cop. I thanked him for the call and chuckled as I looked at my speed... yea I was speeding. I slowed down and went smoothly through the trap, untouched, unharmed, still worshipping.

Holy Spirit immediately spoke to me.

"If you listen to me I will ALWAYS prevent you from walking into the trap of the enemy"

Now that doesn't say He'll prevent trials, it doesn't say He'll prevents tests, it doesn't say He'll prevent difficult times, but IF WE LISTEN, He will warn us of traps that are being set for us. If we listen, we DO NOT have to be caught in a trap of the enemy.

"Keep me free from the trap they have set for me, for you are my refuge" (Psalm 34:1) "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come" (John 16:13)

Holy Spirit wants to warn us when the enemy is setting a trap for us. He is warning us to change behavior, change direction, speak the Word, get out of the way of the trap. He does not let His kids walk into a trap, unwarned.

Sometimes we end up in the trap because we weren't willing to change the behavior that was leading us to the trap. For instance, if I chose to keep speeding, I would have walked right into it. Sometimes we end up in the trap because we aren't listening to Him in the first place. I could have chosen to completely ignore the phone call and kept right along with what I was doing, I may not have realized that what I was doing was going to lead me into a trap, but my choice not to hear landed me there anyway.

Either way Holy Spirit's desire is for us to NEVER be ensnared by the trap of the enemy. His desire is to let us know of the things to come and how to deal with them. We have a God who knows the end from the beginning and loves us enough to talk to us and guide us through this life in victory.

Don't get too hung up if you've walked right into a trap and gotten knocked down. You serve a God big enough to pick you up, dust you off, and set you back on course.

Listen for the voice of our Holy Spirit. He is our teacher, counselor, and guide. He is here to reveal all Truth to you, to reveal things to come, to lead you forward in faith.

Be Blessed, J. Tate
